Life, life source, genesis, cleanliness, relief, future, mercy and abundance: The equivalent of all these words consists of five letters. Water! It is the most essential thing for our African and Asian Muslim brothers to maintain their life.
Water, which we all draw a great lesson from and is one of the supreme gifts of Allah to all mankind, is unfortunately a hard-to-reach blessing for our African and South Asian brothers. 700 million people, mostly Muslims, cannot drink clean and healthy water. Primitively distilled water supplies claim two thousand people’s lives every week, most of them are children under 5. We try to solve this grave problem of our Muslim brothers. Clear water supply is the top priority in our humanitarian aid operations.
We, as IDDEF, try to direct our beneficent donators contributions to dig new water wells so that thousands of people shall taste clean water. All the operations we manage are the fundamental duties of IDDEF, as we set to work by saying ‘Because It’s Worth Human-beings’.
Access to Clean Water
Just as Allah’s sending rain to the Earth and greening everywhere on it, we bring clean water to our African and South Asian brothers’ doorstep by the help of our donators. In the regions we solve water crisis through digging water wells, we also establish a ground for Islamic education.
The Journey to Water
In the countries we dig water wells, it is women’s and girls’ duty to carry and refine water as men go to work on daily basis. Muslim women and girls walk 6 km. a day, spend hundreds of hours a year to reach clean water. Girls cannot attend madrasas and women cannot take care of their families because of this tiring journey. Walking along the desolate areas, girls and women face with many threats, harassment and dangers.
A Well Can Cure All
Having no clean water, Muslims cannot properly perform duties such as ablution, cleanliness and toilet etiquette, which are of great importance in Islam, and those who try to perform cannot do it in dignity. Whereas finding a bowl of clean water, paving the way for our women and girls who try to reach it and enhancing our Muslim brothers’ living standard can well be overcome by just digging a water well.
It’s Like Being in the Midst of an Ocean
Putting the spring water, Allah’s blessing, into the service of our Muslim brothers is changing the lives of people. When we compare the wells with the muchness of water sources on Earth, we just provide them a drop of water. However, thinking the effects and service of a well in a village, it is like the freshness of an ocean. A drop of water you donate for our brothers becomes clean and drinkable spring for millions of people.
Where Does IDDEF Dig Wells?
Majority of IDDEF water wells are in Nigeria, Kenya, Ethiopia (Abyssinia), Somali, Uganda, Tanzania, Guinea, Mali, Ghana, Senegal, India, Niger, Chad, Arakan, Burkina Faso and Philippines. Apart from these countries, we dig wells in several different countries in case of emergency. We have dug 750 water wells up to now.
How Do We Check and Repair Wells?
Water wells are periodically checked once a quarter and thus, valuable contributions of our donators are not wasted.
